About

Hi there!  Thanks for reading this About Us page!  My name is Chris, and I run the site here: visualbasictutorial.net.

I’ve been a professional software developer for the best part of 20 years but programming way before that.  My languages included Commodore BASIC, PASCAL, FORTRAN, C etc until I stumbled on Visual Basic 3 way back in 1995.  The language changed my entire outlook on programming, the language was so simple to grasp, the event handling was a totally new way of programming and the debugging tools were (and remain) best in class.  I was hooked.   Visual Basic was, by far, the most popular language on the planet.

Microsoft switched focus a number of years back with the introduction of C# and to be honest, I naively thought that was that.   How foolish I was.  Visual Basic is still one of the top 10 programming languages in use out there.  There are more jobs available for Visual Basic than the likes of Ruby, Python and Perl.    However the materials available for folk learning Visual Basic are sparse at best.  It’s a language in a state of neglect which is Microsoft’s doing.  However I don’t think they anticipated today that it would still be such a popular environment.

If you’re a new programmer who wishes to learn the ropes, or a programmer wishing to switch to Visual Basic, this guide will help you on your journey.

Enjoy every step of the way and let me know if you have any questions!

Chris
